Tybee Island, otherwise known as Savannah’s beach, is Georgia’s northernmost barrier island located 20 minutes east of historic downtown Savannah. Tybee prides itself on a laid-back atmosphere and locals will say time actually slows down here. Besides plenty of shoreline, the town offers historic lighthouses and forts, beachfront restaurants, art galleries, museums, wildlife and outdoor recreation. It’s an eclectic beach town that has not been spoiled by over development or obstructed views from high-rise hotel chains. While Tybee is a resort seated with a full complement of amenities, luxurious condominiums and quaint rental cottages, it’s also a residential area whose offerings range from historic homes to classic beach-style abodes.
